My granddaughter was born in late October so celebrating her 5th Birthday by having her Birthday Party during the Riverview Farms Fall Festival in CT was an excellent opportunity to not only celebrate with her school friends, but to enjoy all the Autumn festivities and experiences that the farm had to offer.
You can certainly tell that it’s Autmn in New England now! Besides the wonderful scent of apple pies baking, smoke rising from the woodburning stoves and the changing of the leaves, leaf peeping season brings local and county agricultural fairs! Today we took the grandchildren and went to the Durham Fair!
Where did summer go so quickly? We spent a magnificent September Labor Day Weekend 2011 with the grandchildren celebrating Farm Day at the Fish Family Farm. There were plenty of fun things to do, all for the benefit of the Lutz Children’s Museum in Connecticut.
The long Labor Day Weekend in Connecticut traditionally is when many agricultural fairs are held. We spent another enjoyable day with the entire family and grandchildren at the 100th Anniversary of the Haddam Neck Fair.
Summer’s in full swing here and what better way to spend a beautiful sunny day with the whole family than at Lake Compounce, America’s Oldest Amusement Park located in Bristol, Connecticut. Lake Compounce has been in continuous operation since 1846 and the family-friendly theme and water park is an easy daytrip to travel from surrounding New England states.
Comstock, Ferre & Co., of Wethersfield, Connecticut celebrated its 200th Anniversary with a festival on June 5, 2011. Employees of the company were clad in colonial period apparel in order to re-create an aura of the company’s early days when the Connecticut River was of prime importance in providing garden seeds to the Town of Wethersfield and beyond.
It’s officially spring in New England, but many portions of the Northeast still have snow! Did you know that Maple Syrup is also produced in New York State? I had the opportunity to attend the Annual Maple Sugaring Weekends event at Cumming Nature Center in Naples, NY recently to learn how pure maple syrup is made.
