Most of my regular readers know that I’m a New England native. For those of you who are new here, I live in Connecticut.
With summer fast approaching (in some places faster than others!), it means that the time has almost come for some of our favorite activities: going to the beach or pool, grilling on the barbecue, having a picnic, and of course, enjoying ice cream. And, in my family, eating ice cream is primary among them.
Now, we New Englander’s are basically no different than anybody else, with the exception that we have more snow and ice, and a shorter period of warm weather than readers may have who live in other climates.
I have a sweet tooth, and honestly can say that ice cream treats are high up there on the must-have list of things I like to eat.
Since I live in a quaint New England town, we have this cute little ice cream shoppe (we spell shop like this in New England, because it’s so …quaint) in the old part of towne (same thing) where there’s cobblestones, gas light lamps, and a towne green. A few summers ago, my husband and I were going down for our my fix every night. I’d get my favorite treat, but sometimes my husband would pass. He exercises quite a bit of self-control.
At the end of the summer, I think I tried close to every flavor there was…and it showed. I had put on “several” pounds. Luckily, there are low-fat options that provide a cool treat any time of the year.
I’ve been asked by Mom Central to give you the skinny about offerings from Skinny Cow.
My favorite are the chocolate low-fat ice cream sandwiches, which are a great way to enjoy ice cream as part of a healthy lifestyle. With only 150 calories and 2 grams of fat, we now don’t have to feel guilty about Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches when reaching into the freezer for a snack.
The light and creamy frozen treats come in seven different flavors, including cookies ‘n cream, chocolate peanut butter, and mint, which are not only indulgent but remind us of carefree summer days. Not to mention, these sandwiches taste anything but low fat!
My new favorite just might become the vanilla and mint dippers. Each pop has only 80 calories and 3g of fat!
I can still take a walk down to the towne green and sit in the gazebo while admiring the goings-on about town, but I”l be heading home to reach into my freezer for a Skinny Cow treat! I might even let you see “before” and “after” photos of my diet adventures at the end of the summer!
