I agree, moving from Blogger to WordPress was the best thing I did.

Not sure if you are using WordPress.com or a self hosted WordPress, but I moved a couple of blogs to a self-hosted WordPress with no problems (everything to include comments came over no problem.)

I have setup several WP sites.

I setup a WP for a friend and installed plugins (they’re not techie types) and they post with no issues. They even managed to change out their theme without my help. Once setup it’s pretty easy to update.

There are some restrictions with WordPress.com that your won’t find with self-hosted WP. For the most part you cannot run ads (especially Ad-Sense) on your site. If you’re thinking about using WordPress.com I highly recommend that you check out their advertising policy: http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/

This was the main reason I choose to go the self-hosting route.

Be sure to read the fine print about what the WordPress.com version of WordPress allows. I believe that Blogger allows forms of monetization that may be prohibited if you create your blog on WordPress hosting.

I started a couple blogs on their servers but couldn’t stand how slow they were. Do test first to make sure you are getting decent response time.

The very best blog platform is WordPress installed on your own hosting company. If you don’t want to do that part yourself there are plenty of experienced WP experts who can assist you. I don’t do my own technical work – Derek Semmler does it.

I highly recommend businesses go with self-hosted WordPress, use a Theme that is supported (we use Thesis on all our blogs) and install plugins that make your site highly interactive. You can read more about that on the page I linked from the regular Website field for this comment.

I am new here so I also wanted to recommend the post featured in CommentLuv. That explains one of the most important things any blogger or business owner can do to increase their traffic and sales.

I’m just learning how to customize blogger a little more but have heard many people speaking highly about wordpress. I’m really wanting to switch but doesn’t it cost money to be able to have your blog customized. I don’t really want to have a cookie-cutter version of a blog and I would love to be able to customize it whenever i feel like it. SO does it cost to be able to customize it.
