Although many of you are my friends from throughout the United States and internationally, you know that I try to share a part of my life with you in special travel and photography sections on how important New England, and Connecticut in particular is to me.  There you will always find fun things to do in Connecticut!

As a mom of two daughters, both now college graduates, I’m certainly aware of how much work was involved in keeping their schedules straight when they were in high school.

Both of my daughters were athletes, competing in high school lacrosse matches as well as cross-country meets.  In between figuring out their academic schedules, and the associated trips throughout New England and beyond college campus visits, it was amazing that the girls also found time to have part-time jobs.

Additionally, my daughters attended a private high school which required 15 hours of community service per school year as a requirement to graduate.  Each of the girls had an excellent resume that they submitted when they filled out their college applications.  Each daughter was recruited by coaches to play their respective sports at the college they decided to attend.

Wendy’s High School Heisman Award

With college admissions growing more and more selective, the Wendy’s High School Heisman program presents a great opportunity to help those students who have managed to balance so much, stand out. This award celebrates high school seniors who excel in academics, athletics, and community involvement; in essence, recognizing them for all of the things they already do. Colleges want to see well-rounded students who demonstrate dedication and commitment, making this program especially relevant and accessible.

High school seniors who have a 3.0 average or higher, participate in a school-sponsored sport and contribute to their community can apply at www.WendysHeisman.com, or a high school educator, guidance counselor, or coach can nominate them.

As a little reward, the first 41,100 applicants will receive a free Wendy’s gift card in amounts ranging from $5 to $50. One male and one female from each high school will win the award and continue on in competition for state and national awards.

Twelve national finalists will participate in Heisman Weekend festivities during an all-expenses-paid trip Dec. 11-13 to New York City. ESPN2 will feature all 12 national finalists during the Wendy’s High School Heisman Awards Ceremony, which airs Dec. 13.  The Wendy’s High School Heisman website will display the names of all applicants and individual school winners on October 22, 2009.

It’s absolutely amazing how many new friends ~ SAHMs, WAHM, Grandmoms, Baby Boomers that I’ve made, and the variety of talented bloggers I’ve met through Entrecard!

I’m delighted to announce that Kim, from What’s That Smell, has won my first Moomette’s Best WAHM Site Award!

Kim is one terrific gal, and I happened on her blog one day through Entrecard dropping. This mommy really has it together, and has only recently begun to blog.

Kim is actually part of a duo – as the URL is “Accidental Mommies,” but further goes on to describe the blog as:

We call ourselves “accidental” mommies because neither of us are typical mommy material. In fact, many years ago we used to joke that there were 2 kinds of women – “real girls” and “not real girls”. We fit into the “not real girls” category and were quite proud of it. As fairly successful women in a male dominated career field, we wore slacks instead of skirts, we shunned make-up and chick-flicks and were in many ways grown up tom-boys.

I belong to The Mom Pack, a terrific networking resource for WAHMs. Many of the Mom Packers have been inquiring about finding out information on working from home and doing Paid Surveys. (Kim said she’s applied to become a Mom Packer.)

What drew me to Kim’s blog intitially, was the fact that it had the most well-researched, credible series on Paid Surveys that I have seen. Here was a valuable list, and How-To, and surveys that an actual Mom had put together. She wasn’t attempting to get you hooked into anything, but rather, was laying out the groundwork for you to make your own decisions on the Survey for Profit process.

Additionally, Kim covers such topics as giveaways; funny stuff; mom resources; parenting; homeschooling; cooking and recipies – and just about anything else that you could want to know!
