My favorite apps for organization and shopping is CardStar.  I no longer have to fumble and look for all of those silly store membership and reward cards or keep them on my key chain for all of the national and regional merchants such as CVS, Big Y, Petco, Staples and more.

A favorite if you collect recipes is Paprika, or are a recipe blogger like I am on Frugal New England Kitchen.

Apps For Organization

With so many new gadgets and gizmos entering the market in today’s society, it can be easy to feel a little behind on the times. While young adults and teenagers have grown up with these new technologies and toys, many adults feel less than comfortable with evolving mobile technology. However, there is a reason these applications and tools have become so popular. Mobile technology is no doubt the next big market for the tech industry. With our cell phones acting essentially as our second brain, there are so many useful tools and applications we can find on them to help us with our everyday lives. Busy parents and guardians can use these five mobile apps to more effectively and efficiently organize and manage their lives.

Things

This app is one of the most popular productivity applications on the market. Available for iPhone and other Apple products, Things allows you to effortlessly manage to-dos, due dates, and projects. You can use this application to create lists and schedules for yourself and your family. Keep careful track of your kids’ doctors’ appointments, school assignments, sports competitions, and more. Task managers are something that parents and moms have been using for years and years to help stay on top of things in their busy lives. This app just simplifies your task management system and allows you to keep track of things from the convenience of your phone.

Dropbox

I will put Dropbox on almost any app list I make. That’s how much I value this tool. Dropbox is a wonderful resource for any individual who uses the internet and a computer to get things done. Dropbox allows you to store up to two gigs of information all within the “cloud”. You can store documents, music, and more all within the application itself and then access those files from any device with an internet connection. Moms can use this app to better manage their documents and their kids’ documents. Store any health information, school notes, sports documents, or anything else concerning your kids within your Dropbox account, so that you can access that information at any time. Dropbox is a wonderful organization and productivity tool for any individual.

Evernote

Like Dropbox, this tool has many different uses and can help many different types of people. Perfect for the busy mom, Evernote lets you save and store notes and pictures at any time. This app is great for keeping track of grocery lists, contacts, appointment dates, and much more. Parents can create an account and use Evernote from their personal computer, phone, or any other device with internet access. This helps people, access their notes, lists, contacts, etc. at any time. Evernote is perfect for moms on the go who are always expected to remember dates and deadlines. Use this tool to more carefully and easily organize your life.

Grocery iQ

There are numerous grocery shopping applications in the app market today. While many of these shopping apps are no doubt useful, Grocery iQ definitely stands out among the rest. Use Grocery iQ to set up lists for several different stores, organize your shopping route aisle by aisle, and print out coupons for your trip. This application keeps careful track of your list and helps make your trip as simple and stress-free as possible. These app developers really kept their users in mind, allowing you to add things to the list from your personal computer and then sync that list with your phone list. Family Organizer

Last night I participated in the 2nd Session of the Blogging Hot Seminar Series on WordPress, hosted by Kelly McCausey.

Savvy Blogging – #Fail

Any blogger who’s savvy by now may have heard the latest controversy going around the blogosphere concerning the “Savvy Blogging Summit” that will be held in Colorado, in July.

If you’re on Twitter, the hashtag #savvyblogging is used to find all tweets pertaining to blogging tips, tricks, advice, and general chit chat.

On occasion, I have been known to utilize the hashtag to dispense my own words of wisdom and what I think are my best work-at-home tips, blogging tips and social media advice that I’ve developed and learned from others (for FREE, through fabulous blogs, forums, emails, etc.) over the last three+ years I’ve been blogging.

I don’t purport to know the young women who will be hosting The Summit, but I do follow these ladies as well as several of their loyal followers on Twitter, and I believe they follow me back.

I first learned of the controversy through Trisha over at Mom Dot. Her original post “Charging for a CHANCE to go to a conference? Huh? has garnered substantial comments, most of which express outrage at the circumstances.  The issue that has developed is controversy concerning a $5.00 non-refundable “application fee” to be “considered” to be among the chosen few to attend this Summit.  I continue to call it a summit, while the hostesses are calling it a “school.” Schools offer degrees.  With a Graduation Exercise. Pomp and Circumstance is usually played as the graduates march in to accept their diplomas.

While I believe that on it’s merits, most conferences or summits that bring together bloggers to share and exchange ideas is a “good thing” as Martha Stewart would say – first charging the sum of $5.00 before you can even access the application is, in my mind, fleecing taking advantage of those who probably aren’t earning a penny yet if they try to monetize their blog.

The goal of my blog is to try to point moms who want to be WAHMs or bloggers in the right direction – and this, clearly is NOT the right direction. It’s a new tactic, on uncharted ground. It is not a common practice of blogging conferences or events, by any means.

Furthermore, any event planner worth their salt would have all their ducks in a row before having a website go public.  The site (as of the date of this post) doesn’t even have a roster of who the “experts in their fields” are who will be speaking.  Really.  Not.Too.Savvy.

Moreover, as for the claim that they are seeking sponsorships for ALL the attendees – For Real? Is their target market newbie bloggers? Mid-level bloggers? It’s difficult enough for established bloggers to get ONE partial or full sponsorship to events such as BlogHer or Type-A Mom Conference. I really have my reservations that they’ll be able to get company(s) to pay for sponsorships for ALL their attendees. Don’t buy into this hype!

I’ve already taken some flack for my position on Twitter, but I’m standing by it. Let the chips fall where they may. I have my standards.

Lori from A Cowboy’s Wife further posits her thoughts on the matter on her post – “$5 for Consideration, Paying for others if Denied” .  I’m sure other bloggers, mommy or not, will be speaking up regarding the non-savvyness of what I have dubbed #Ticketmastergate.

Am I serious about my blog? You Betcha. I spend approximately 6 hours per night on it, after working a full-time job during the day, along with other family responsibilities.

And for the record, I have never attended a blogging event … yet.

Stress isn’t limited strictly to young families and moms with kids at home, believe me.  People have busy lives and are constantly dealing with stress. Whether you’re a WAHM, stay-at-home mom or corporate execute executive, all of us have important tasks to do on a daily basis and we’re always on the move. As long as we get to have a moment to relax and rejuvenate ourselves so we can start each day refreshed, it’s OK.

What can we do to relax and rejuvenate our minds and bodies? Soaking in a tub can do wonders for the mind and body. No time, you might ask?  Well then create the time! After the house is quiet at night, take at least 30-minutes for yourself, because you’re worth it!

There are all kinds of bath products available for you to pamper yourself with and some of my favorites are listed right here on this site that I’ve done product reviews on in the past. If you enjoy taking a bath, there are soaps, bath salts, bath bubbles, sugar scrubs, which come in variety of scents (my personal favorite is Citrus). Soak away your stress with the bath products of your choice – light a candle or two, turn out your bathroom light, have some soft relaxing music in the background, put your head on an orthopedic pillow and you are good to go. Close your eyes and enjoy the wonderful scent, let it take you to wherever you’d like to be. Try not to fall asleep!

Of course if you can afford a day spa on a regular basis, that’s great, but if you’re like me and most busy women I know,the do-it-yourself spa is just as good as the real one. Here are 3 big reasons why:

You can enjoy a luxurious bath from the comfort of your own home. So if you have little kids, there is no need to hire a baby sitter. Tell the kids or spouse it’s “Me Time” and you have all the time you need for your home spa treatment.

It’s affordable!  As much as we’d like, a visit to a day spa is nice, but it’s definitely not cheap.

If you’re not so much a bath person, then turn your shower into what I call “a relaxation staycation”.  A high pressure shower massage head does wonders and acts as a back pain treatment.

No need to make an appointment! You can set up your special bath time whenever you want.

Now that you’re thoroughly rejuvenated, curl up with a neck pain pillow, and read your favorite book or gossip magazine!

Having lived in New England all my life, I’ve certainly experienced many a cold winter.

You would think that although my kids are grown, I no longer have to keep track of dance lessons, lacrosse or soccer games, cross-country meets and other school activities.

As chief mom (and grandmom!) around here, there’s still plenty of organizing to do.

I make notes of what days I have to pick up the grandkids from daycare; what day grandmom’s on-call to babysit when the kids go out on those Saturday night date nights; birthdays, anniversaries – you know how it goes!

Sometimes I even manage to fit in some personal time for hair appointments, manicures & pedicures!

Now that I blog , I still have to keep up with all the product review and contest giveaway schedules.
